History
Unveiled in front of a crowd of approximately 1500 people on 6/10/1904 by the
mayor, Mr J. Manchester. This marble statue of Zealandia was designed and built
by the firm of Bergamini and Reid and commemorates by name just one trooper. It
recognises the number of men contributed by the district and also mentions the
overall New Zealand effort during the Boer War.
A similar memorial featuring Zealandia can be seen at Palmerston.
