Otipua Memorial, South Canterbury |
|
Location
Pareora West Cemetery, South Canterbury
History
This marble memorial on a bluestone base was unveiled at the Pareora West
cemetery 26/9/1901. It was paid for by local subscription and was unveiled by
the wife of Arthur Elworthy.
Part of the the inscription reads, rather strangely, 'Boer War A.D. 1900'. This
year was neither the beginning or the end of the war. It most likely refers to
the fact that all three men commemorated died in that year.
Memorial Roll
