Invercargill Memorial
Location

cnr Dee and Tay St, Invercargill

History

Design by Newton Vane, this granite and marble memorial was unveiled by the then Prime Minister, Sir Joseph Ward, on 3rd June 1908.

Two of the names on the memorial, those of Daniel and Gibb, are a mystery as to the reason for their inclusion. Neither of the two men are listed as being casualties of the Anglo-Boer War. A James Gibb is recorded as dying 1902, but at 64 years of age it is hard to believe he would have been selected to serve in South Africa. Any information regarding these two names would be appreciated.
